The Black Blade

After Morrock's lair was secure, merchants from Cambria inventoried the recovered goods. They reported that many of the most valuable items were missing and a few secretly began to suspect the party.

Calador studied the diary and discovered that Morrock was looking for a powerful magical item which he was convinced lay hidden somewhere in the nearby Darkwood Forest. He described finding an evil forest spirit that preyed upon travelers by luring them into danger. Morrock believed it may eventually lead him to the Wraithblade.

The party agreed to help Calador find the blade. Using Morrock’s notes and clues found along the way the party located a ruined and overgrown keep hidden deep in the forest. Shadowy hounds and undead ogres guarded the grounds of the keep.

The party descended an old well into an ancient crypt guarded by four large ogre zombies. Kavinir discovered a secret door that linked this false crypt to a larger underground kuo-toan temple. The party arrived in the midst of a battle between the temple guards and a powerful drow raiding party. In the confusion of battle that followed Kavinir was killed by a dire crocodile and Con was captured and taken hostage by the retreating drow.

When the smoke cleared, the group reached an uneasy truce with King Ulug and his remaining fyre warriors in return for the kings help in finding the Wraithblade. Ulug lead the group to an ancient door. The passage beyond contained many obstacles and traps and ended in a large chamber inhabited by a horde of skeletal warriors controlled by a deadly dire wraith. Ashley was struck down by the wraith and nearly joined it in undeath.

In this vault Calador found the Wraithblade he sought and something more, a strange humanoid construct. Two old friends were lost along the way. But now free from the Kuo-toan temple, Naetahl'ir and Brother Roland both agreed to join the band on its adventures.
