Morrock's Marauders

The following year, at a festival to celebrate the anniversary of the end of the troll invasions the group was approached by several local merchants. The merchants reported that two valuable trade caravans had disappeared recently between Umbar and Cambria and asked the group for their help.

The group agreed to help the merchants for a percentage of the recovered goods and headed north toward Cambria following the caravan route through Darkwood forest. The burned out remains of several wagons were discovered in what appeared to be the remains of a dragon attack. The party headed toward a nearby mountain peak rumored to be the home of a large dragon.

The party discovered partially covered wagon tracks in the tall grass and followed them toward the foot hills of the mountain range. The party found themselves trapped in a carefully prepared ambush but was able to fight its way through and defeat its bugbear and goblin ambushers. Several miles away the party located a hidden cave which served as the lair of the Ogre Mage Morrock.

In savage close quarters fighting the group defeated Morrock’s band which included two dozen goblin rogues, 9 bugbears, 2 ogres and 4 worgs. Morrock used a huge illusionary dragon in a last ditch attempt to try to drive the party away. In the end, Morrock was critically wounded by Kavinir but was able to narrowly escape using his gaseous form.

After searching the cave, the party found false dragon feet and alchemical fire the band had used in a ruse to try to convince local residents that a large dragon had attacked and destroyed the caravans. They believed this was used in an attempt to scare off or misdirect any would-be investigators or heroes. They also discovered several missing wagons, the stolen cargo, and freed more than 20 militia and merchant guard captives. Calador recovered the personal diary left behind by Morrock in his hasty flight.
